Volunteer Jobs are Available in Many Categories
There are over 54 volunteer sites wanting more volunteers. Volunteers contributions range from several hours per month to several hours per week. The average volunteer works 2-4 hours one day each week. Clerical Support is needed at many area agencies to help with clerical, filing and data entry. Computer Instructors/Coaches teach senior friendly computer classes. Crafters knit, crochet, and sew items to donate to needy neighbors. Crisis Counselors and Emergency Assistants are needed at locations in Ellenville, New Paltz, and Woodstock. Defensive Driving Instructors are wanted to teach classes to seniors. Drivers are wanted to deliver meals to homebound individuals who are elderly or are chronically ill. Drivers are needed to transport seniors to and from medical appointments, shopping, and errands. Environmental Centers need volunteer tour guides, information assistants, outdoor educators, trail guides and naturalists. Friendly Visitors are wanted to visit homebound seniors, to do chores and minor indoor/outdoor repairs. Food Pantry Workers are needed by area food distribution agencies to help store, pack, cook and serve meals. Gift Shop Workers are wanted at area museums, environmental centers, and other tourist destination locations. Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance (HIICAP) Volunteer(s) needed to help counsel their peers aged 60+ so that they may make informed decisions in choosing their health care insurance plans. Homework Club volunteers are wanted Monday through Thursday from 3-4 pm to help mentor children in grades 1-5 as they complete their homework and engage in educational games such as Scrabble, Chess, or card games. Hot Line Helpers answer hotline phones for various activities. Information Assistants are wanted at a variety of tourist attractions and environmental centers. Language Interpreters are needed for a variety of human services related issues. ESL Tutors assist non-English speaking students with various topics. Mentor Volunteers are needed in school settings for children 7-14 years old. Museum Volunteers are needed as tour guides, gift shop workers, and special events workers. Ombudsmen are needed to provide advocacy services for seniors who are residents in long-term care facilities. Patient Care Volunteers are needed to provide help at a hospital or nursing home to provide outreach to community. Pen Pals are needed for intergenerational service learning for 4th grade students. Reading Tutors are wanted at area elementary schools (grades K-3) to help children gain reading skills. SWAT Volunteers are needed to help with special projects or events. Tele-Friends are wanted by several programs to reach out to homebound seniors via phone calls. Tour Guides are needed at several museums and environmental centers. Tourism Assistants are wanted in Kingston and New Paltz, from May through October. Volunteer Consultants are needed for not for profits to assist in business plans, fund raising, marketing, and other special projects. Volunteer Leaders are needed to help a not-for-profit agency to coordinate volunteers, match and schedule volunteers to assignments. |
