Steven Schimmrich, Associate Professor & Department Chair

Steven Schimmrich has been a full-time member of the Earth Sciences faculty since August of 1999. Mr. Schimmrich has taught all of the Earth Science (ESC) courses at SUNY Ulster except ESC-140 Earth's Environment. His special interests include structural geology and tectonics, local geology, and science education and literacy. Mr. Schimmrich won the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2007 and is the author of a soon-to-be-published book on the geology of the Hudson Valley. |

Karen Helgers, Instructor
M.S., SUNY College of Env. Science & Forestry, 1988 B.S., SUNY Oneonta
Karen Helgers has been a full-time member of the Earth Sciences faculty since January of 2005. For the two prior years, she was a part-time instructor at SUNY Ulster. Ms. Helgers teaches sections of ESC-101 Sky & Space, ESC-102 Planet Earth, GEG-101 Physical Geography, and ESC-140 Earth's Environment. Her special interests include ground water and surface water hydrology and human interactions with our physical environment. Ms. Helgers won the SUNY Ulster President's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2005. |
