You can major in any of the following programs here at SUNY Ulster if you are interested in pursuing a career in one of the earth sciences. If you're not sure what you want to do, feel free to talk to any of the earth science faculty, we'd be happy to sit down to discuss your career goals and provide advice.


Liberal Arts & Sciences: Mathematics and Science

This is the path to take if you know that you would like to transfer to a four-year school to continue your study of earth science and become a geologist, astronomer, meteorologist, oceanographer, or other earth scientist. You will need to complete at least Calculus I to obtain this degree.

Individual Studies

This is the path to take if you think that you would like to transfer to a four-year school to continue your study of earth science and become a geologist, astronomer, meteorologist, oceanographer, or other earth scientist but do not have the requisite background to complete all of the course requirements for the Liberal Arts: Mathematics and Science degree listed above.

Liberal Arts & Sciences: Mathematics and Science - Adolescent Education 7-12

This is the path to take if you know that you would like to transfer to a four-year school to become a high school earth science teacher. This program allows you to have a geology or an environmental geology concentration. High school teachers certified in earth science are currently in demand in New York State.

Liberal Arts & Sciences: Mathematics and Science - Childhood Education 1-6

This is the path to take if you know that you would like to transfer to a four-year school to become an elementary school science teacher. This program allows you to have an earth science concentration.

Liberal Arts & Sciences: Mathematics and Science - Early Childhood Education B-2

This is the path to take if you know that you would like to transfer to a four-year school to become a preschool or early elementary school teacher. This program allows you to have an earth science concentration.
