RSVP COMMUNITY CRAFT
SALE
RSVP receives requests
from numerous Ulster County agencies, nursing homes, senior residences,
hospitals, and children’s centers, for many different items. For the past
several years, this need has been addressed by the RSVP Community Crafters
and their Volunteer Leader, Pauline Wyre.
Early in October, on behalf of the Community Crafters, Dottie Bell and
Pauline traveled around our community distributing hundreds of knitted,
crocheted and hand-sewn items created and donated by our creative and
dedicated volunteers. We have received many cards of appreciation and
thanks from the agencies stating how wonderful it was that Dottie and
Pauline would arrive at their doorsteps with bags of beautiful and warm
hand-crafted items. This past year alone, RSVP was able to donate 550
items to area agencies.
Babies, children, adults, and the elderly alike all will enjoy the array
of items – everything from baby hats & sweaters, mittens, walker bags
and lap robes, sweaters, shawls, and cuddly items. All providing much
needed comfort and warmth.
The community crafters have also created beautiful hand-made items to
be sold at the annual RSVP volunteer crafter sale. Held on the campus
of SunyUlster, on October 22, from 10am – 2pm and at the City of Kingston’s
Midtown Neighborhood Center, on November 3rd from 10am – 4pm the proceeds
from the sales are used to support the volunteers and to keep the Community
Crafter’s closet stocked with yarn and craft supplies to be used by the
volunteers when making items for the needy of the community. This year
alone, the 28 RSVP community crafters worked 12680 hours to create items,
organize the craft sale, and to prepare and distribute the items to the
agencies.
Many thanks to Pauline Wyre and her Community crafters for all they do
for the community!
Be
sure to attend October 22, 2008 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the UCCC
Cafeteria to select your gift items.
